How do you handle stress, when it comes?
Hey guys!...I know I promised to finish up on the previous post, but mehn! I have been really busy and back, fully bustling and hustling...it's for the greater good though.
So I would like to talk a little bit about something else today.
STRESS! STRESS! STRESS!...
How do u handle stress when it presents itself? What is the most appropriate and healthy way to tackle stress? Can one avoid stress? Does everyone experience stressful moments?...
So many questions. The list goes on and on...
Well, firstly I can assure you that everyone passes through stress. Everyone!. I'm sure you all know that....
Stress can present in different forms. It could be work( current situation for me!lol), family, kids, friends, even enemies😂. It could also be important decisions one has to make, uncertainties, disappointments etc. The list definitely goes on...
It's important to note here that there is really no single way to handle stress. They come in different forms, so may have to be handled in different ways...
Stress as defined by scientists in everyday terms, is a feeling that people have when they are overloaded and struggling to cope with demands. (medicalnewstoday.com)
Before going into the scientific proven ways to counteract stress...let's be practical using real life experiences... (my views)
. First and foremost, emotional strength is very important in counteracting stress. You would have to build up your resilience to giving slight openings for stressful situations because trust me!, they always come. Someone I know and respect, calls it emotional quotient (EQ). Just the same way people have intelligence quotient (IQ). The same way you strive to increase your IQ, that is the same way you should strive to increase your 'EQ' as well...
Lemme break it down a bit. When you are stressed at work for example, what is your countenance like? Do u flare up at any and everyone? Do you become rude or disrespect to your bosses? ( ...don't even think about it, because you would pass through more stress if you are laid-off for insolence), do you gossip about other people or your bosses? ( this one is very common). Being able to remain calm and composed is something every one should master in the midst of all these. You should find a positive way to channel that lurking negative energy.
Positive ways like taking yourself out after a stressful day, spending quality time with your kids, spending time and talking about such issues with your husband, or just locking yourself in a room to vent your anger😅, then come out afterwards ( sure works for some people!lol)....or writing down something ( it sure works for me)...
The list goes on....
. Another way to blow off stress is to exercise. This doesn't just keep you looking good. It gives you an avenue to blow off the steam.
. For some that love to sleep, a good nap also calms you down and removes all forms of anxiety when you awake ( depending on what the stress factor is). Movie-lovers could also go watch an interesting movie, or just watch one in the comfort of their home.
. Life is to be lived to the fullest to be accumulating stress and worries, because they would never stop coming. You deal with one, another one comes up after some few days or minutes. Lol!
Being able to stay afloat hence, is very pertinent!
Some people try to see possible situations by which the stressor can be eliminated, that is thinking of possible ways to get rid of the problem... (in a good way, I suppose!). This is also very good and limits the impact of the stress early. This could be coming up with practical ways to tackle work projects, talking out that issue with a colleague or friend, forgiving, as well as dedicating more time for yourself if it's an 'over-worked' mummy issue (ps: not selfish at all)....
. All the above are practical ways to get rid of stress, but the list goes on. The question to always ask yourself is what practical, attainable and smart way can I 'de-stress' myself frequently, so it becomes a habit.
You are passing through stressful events but you are not stressed an inch...👌
That's how you get 'SKIN-THICK' to stress!!!😉
Last but not least, is definitely plan for one or two vacations in each year, as your purse can carry you of course
Now, scientific ways to 'de-stress':
. Exercise. (already stated above). Studies have shown it benefits a person's mental and physical state.
. Healthy nutrition. This maintains immune system at times of stress.
. Prioritizing: spend a little time organising your to-do list to see what is most important. Focus on what you have accomplished and not what you have not.
. Time: set aside some time each day for yourself.
. Breathing and relaxation: Meditations, massage and yoga can help. Breathing and relaxation techniques can slow down the system and help one relax.
. Sharing your concerns with close friends and family, or even talking to your boss if it is work related.
. Finding your own destressors.
. Establishing support networks. Eg: joining a club, charity, or religious organization.
. Remove or change the source of stress ( if possible).
. Alter the way you view a stressful event.

What stress does to the human body:
. Raises blood pressure
. Slows down the digestive system
. Depresses body's immunity
. Tenses body muscles, resulting in aches
. Causes poor sleep.
There are 3 types of stress - acute stress, episodic acute stress and chronic stress.
All these have detrimental effects on the human body!!!
Bottom line is TRY TO LIVE A DE-STRESSED LIFE ALWAYS!!.
Cheers...
